The mentorship culture in university is always sold from the perspective of the mentor. Let us ask you if you have ever considered becoming a mentee yourself because we couldn’t find enough content that discussed the significance of being a mentee.
You are a grown individual who just took the biggest decisions of your life, college admission and college debts all considered, you are the adviser giver at this point and not the advice taker. We get your point, here we will discuss how you can practically use the mentorship relationship at this point in your life.
Loneliness:
Even though you have made a dozen friends in your freshman year, you know they are new friends. You miss your best friend and you want someone who will connect with you on a deeper level. The mentorship is a great way to make sure that you develop that deeper connection with a person on campus and gain a truthful opinion on the course of your performance on campus by someone who has a deeper understanding.
Check-In:
There is a long list of things about campus life, housing, food budget and other factors that people develop a deeper knowledge of as years pass. Your peers won’t be able to give you these insider tips as they are doing this for the first time as well. So make a mentorship relation and you will get tons of retrospective tips on how to manage your campus life.
Friends:
Friends are fun, if your mentor is from your own department then they can help you with notes or give you tips about professors that you are going to have. It is not a good idea to underestimate the potential of growth that comes with this privilege.
Practicality:
A mentor in the campus is not exactly Good Will Hunting in general sense. It is simply a person who is older than you and is there to help out with issues that you may be facing every day. So enjoy having a guide and let them help you out a bit. This will only lead to you having a better experience.
All in all, you should have a mentor because of practically its a good idea. We have guidance forums at Tavvy as well that you should check out.
