16 Basic SEO Terms to Remember |

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. It is the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page organically in a search engine unpaid search. Working on SEO becomes much easier when you understand some of the vocabulary related to SEO. To make it easy for you, we’ve listed basic terms that you might have heard it before, never knew its deeper meaning. I have tried to list some of the SEO glossary and the important terms that you and every SEO Company should really know when planning SEO for your website. 1. Anchor Text Anchor text is a clickable text in content. These may constitute words or phrases that are hyperlinked. Words contained in the hypertext can be linked to a location on the web or another document. 2. Alt text Alt test is a shorter name of ‘Alternative text’. It is a word or set of phrases that can be inserted as an attribute in an HTML to document the context of an image. This helps the bots to make out the type of image. 3. Meta Tags A Meta tag is located also located in the HTML that describes the types or the categories of the contents on a web page. 4. Bounce Rate Bounce rate is the percentage of visitors who exit the page within seconds of visiting the website without completing a session that is of 30 minutes. As your bounce rate percentage is low, that means that there is more engagement of the potential customers on your website. 5. HTML HTML stands for ‘Hypertext Mark-up Language’. It is generally the back-end of a website and involves using codes to design and develop a website. Google algorithm also analyzes this language for various reasons. 6. Index An index is a space in a search engine that contains information about all the websites that are listed in it to help find the results as per the keywords. You need to make sure that you update your index because users will not be able to find your website via search engines. 7. Keywords In the context of SEO, a keyword is a particular word or phrase that describes the contents on a web page. Keywords act as an overall short cut that sums up an entire page. Keywords also help search engines match up searches with appropriate pages. 8. Landing Page A landing page is very important to a website. It is a web page that serves an entry point to a website. Landing pages can be set up alongside an AdSense campaign. 9. Link Building Link building is the process of exchanging the links with other websites of the same relevancy to improve your websites quality score and generate back links. Google measures website popularity and trust by the quality and number of back links that a website has. 10. Redirect Redirection is the process of forwarding one URL in place of another. There are three different types of redirection that are primarily used. 301 – Moved Permanently 302 – Found/Moved temporarily 11. Search Engine Search engines are websites that help the visitors in carrying out the searches by identifying a database which corresponds to keywords used by a user. The most popular search engines are Google and Bing. 12. CMS CMS stands for Content Management System. This system allows you to publish, edit and manage your website easily. The most commonly used CMS is WordPress, Joomla, Magento etc. 13. Site Map A site map is a list of pages of the website that the Google bots can access. This document lists the pages of a website, organised in a list and used as a planning tool for web layout and design. If the site map is designed well, then it will be easier for the Google bots to crawl your website and hence decide that your website’s content belongs to a search query. 14. URL URL stands for ‘Uniform Resource Locator’. It is the internet address for a website. It has two major functionalities, the Protocol identifier i.e http or https and Resource name is the domain name. 15. Analytics Google analytics is a free program designed by Google in order to assist your business to measure advertising ROI and track all social networking campaigns and Adwords advertising status. 16. Blog A blog is a website where a person writes their personal opinions. When you write a blog for your website it creates the chance to apply a unique content to your website which improves your overall SEO score. Blogs are usually regularly updated and are written in an informal or conversational style. It is important to update new material weekly to keep viewers interested. If SEO is being done by yourself or the SEO Company, it is necessary to the above points in mind to make the website more successful.
